11. VIII-1957 The Moscow Mosque was visited by a journalist from Iraq- Mohamed Ishfar. The guest had a conversation with Imam Salikhov. The contents of the conversation are as follows:

Guest: How many Muslims are there in Moscow?

Imam: We do not know for sure, probably about 10 thousand people.

Guest: Where does the money to maintain the mosques come from?

Imam: Religion is separate from the state and that is why the government does not build mosques. The mosques are built using the money from the donations of the faithful.

Гость: Как управляется религия в СССР?

Guest: How is religion managed in the USSR?

Imam: There are 4 spiritual governances: in Tashkent, Ufa, Baku and Buynaksk. The leader of the spiritual governance is the Muftiy. The Spiritual governances control all of the religious functions.

Guest: Is there a religious governance in Moscow?

Imam: There is. I myself am a Muhtasib and chairman of the religious governance regarding the Moscow, Gorkovsky and Leningradsky oblasts.

Guest: How many mosques are there in Moscow?

Imam: There is one with three floors. Moscow is a Russian city and there are not many Muslims here.

The guest thanked the Imam for the meeting and they said their goodbyes. The Imam asked the guest to send his regards to the Iraqi Muslims.
