С разрешения начальства я, мулла сел. Зильги Дженардыко Цахилов, основываясь на священном Коране и на точном мусульманском толковании религиозных законов, указанных в шариате, объявляю открыто, что учение большевиков с их идеей о коммунизме и интернационализме противно шариату, и сами большевики, как враги всякой религии, особенно вредны для мусульманства, а потому мусульманское духовенство должно открыто, всенародно об этом кричать и объявлять.
Коран говорит: «Признавай Бога, Его посланников-пророков и начальство над собой» (умара’, т.е. власть), вносящее порядок в государственный строй. В настоящее время вводят порядок и хотят довести Россию до государственного строя верховный правитель адмирал Колчак и главнокомандующий Вооруженными силами на юге России генерал Деникин, которые во главе Добровольческой армии и любящих Россию сынов ее решились довести дело до победного конца над большевиками и установить государственный строй. Вот почему мы, мусульмане, на основании шариата, должны молиться Богу о сохранении здоровья верховному правителю адмиралу Колчаку, генералу Деникину и за успех работы сыновей России, жертвующих собой для блага родины.
Мы, сыны гор Северного Кавказа, приняли участие в дружной работе над восстановлением великой России, выставив войсковые части против не признающих Бога и человеческие законы большевиков, и сыны наши зарекомендовали себя с лучшей стороны. Но «семья не без урода», попадаются уроды и среди гор Северного Кавказа, оставляющие фронт и свои войсковые части без разрешения начальства, уходящие к себе домой или скрывающиеся в безвестности и носящие позорную кличку «дезертир».
По всем городам, селениям, аулам и местечкам мы, горцы, должны стать на ноги и сдать немедленно всех дезертиров начальству для отправления вперед в свои части.
Осетины, более ста лет тому назад предки наши, окруженные со всех сторон враждебными народностями, вынуждены были запереться в горных ущельях.
Только с приходом русской власти на Кавказ мы, осетины, безбоязненно выселились из гор и образовали плоскостные селения, где встретили ласку и сердечный прием русского народа.
Россия для нас не мачеха, а любящая мать, и, помня это, мы должны довериться ей, ибо она нас поведет по правильному пути, как вела и до сих пор.
Верьте в скорую победу над врагом и в восстановление попранных законов, верьте, что труды Добровольческой армии, часть которой составляете и вы, никогда не изгладятся из памяти благодарного потомства.

Appeal by D. Tsakhilov, mullah of the Ossetia Cavalry Division, to the population of Ossetia
3 October 1919
With the commanders’ permission, I, Dzhenardyko Tsakhilov, mullah of the settlement of Zilga, based on the sacred Quran and on a precise Muslim interpretation of the religious laws set forth in Sharia, openly declare that the Bolsheviks’ doctrine with their idea about communism and internationalism is contrary to Sharia, and the Bolsheviks themselves, as enemies of all religion, are especially harmful to Muslims, and therefore the Muslim clergy must openly and publicly cry out and declare this.
The Quran says “Recognize God, His emissary-prophets and authority over you” (umara, i.e. power), which brings order to the state system. At present the supreme ruler Admiral Kolchak and the commander-in-chief of Armed Forces in southern Russia General Denikin are bringing order and want to take Russia to a state system, and, heading the Volunteer Army and Russia’s sons who love it, they have made up their minds to take the effort to a victorious end over the Bolsheviks and to establish a state system. That is why we Muslims, on the basis of Sharia, must pray to God to preserve the health of the supreme ruler Admiral Kolchak and General Denikin and for the success of the work of Russia’s sons, who are sacrificing themselves for the good of the homeland.
We, sons of the mountains of the Northern Caucasus, took part in harmonious work on restoring great Russia, deploying troop units against the Bolsheviks, who do not recognize God and human laws, and our sons acquitted themselves in the best possible way. But “there’s a bad apple in every barrel,” and bad apples also turn up among the mountains of the Northern Caucasus, who leave the front and their troop units without permission from the commanders, who go home or into hiding and carry the shameful label of “deserter.”
In every town, settlement, village and little community, we mountain people must get up on our feet and immediately turn in all deserters to the commanders so they can be sent ahead to their units.
Fellow Ossetians, more than a hundred years our forefathers, surrounded on all sides by hostile peoples, were compelled to lock themselves up in the mountain gorges.
Only when Russian rule came to the Caucasus did we Ossetians fearlessly move out of the mountains and form flat settlements, where we encountered affection and a warm reception from the Russian people.
Russia for us is not a stepmother but a loving mother and, remembering this, we must trust it, because it will lead us along the right path, as it has led us to this point.
Believe in a swift victory over the enemy and in the restoration of trampled laws, believe that the efforts of the Volunteer Army, part of which you constitute, will never be erased from the memories of a grateful posterity.
